Regent Seven Seas plans to build a new liner
Luxury cruise operator Regent Seven Seas plans to construct a new liner. It was reported by the Cruise Critic portal with reference to the Regent Seven Seas president Mark Conroy.
The new Regent Seven Seas liner, according to the head of the company, will be an improved model of Seven Seas Voyager. The main differences from the Seven Seas Voyager will be its capacity (750 passengers against 700 on the Seven Seas Voyager), as well as bigger spa center and cabins.
Currently Regent Seven Seas operates only three ships. The company tries to focus not on quantity, but on quality of services. Thus, the above-mentioned Seven Seas Voyager ship is one of the few cruise ships, which all cabins are luxury suites.
Construction of a new liner has become a necessary step due to the growing boom of the cruise industry. Companies are optimistic about the successful development because of the growing demand from tourists and possible reduction of fuel costs. These factors promise further development of the whole cruise industry and luxury cruise lines in particular.
Cruises are gaining popularity all around the world. This season cruise industry showed the best figures in the history. For example, in the UK the demand for sea cruises has grown by 120%. Regent Seven Seas recorded occupancy rate at 91% on its ships in 2011. Only 11 of the total number of last year cruises from Regent Seven Seas didn’t reach 100%.
It is possible that Regent Seven Seas will place its new order at the biggest Italian shipyard Fincantieri. It should be noted that all previous ships of the company were produced in Italy at the T. Marriotti shipyard.
